Mike Summers - October 2011:
The Newark - Liberty Airport is used by Continental Airlines as a hub. It's the least convenient airport to get to New York City compared to Kennedy and LaGuardia. Here's two websites for the airport:
http://www.panynj.gov/airports/newark-liberty.html
and
http://www.airport-ewr.com/
, and here is some information on ground transportation from Newark to Manhattan:
Newark Airport AirTrain -
http://www.panynj.gov/airports/pdf/ewr-airtrain-brochure-english.pdf
and
New Jersey Transit -
http://www.njtransit.com/hp/hp_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=HomePageTo
. You take the AirTrain from the Terminal to Newark Airport Rail Station. Then take New Jersey Transit from the Rail Station to New York Penn Station. Penn Station is located in midtown west Manhattan right next to Madison Square Garden and near the Empire State Building and the original Macy's Department Store (Penn Station Websites:
http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=am/am2Station/Station_Page&code=NYP
and
http://manhattan.about.com/od/gettingaround/a/pennstation.htm
). If you're actually visiting Newak, there's two places to visit: 1) Liberty Park (Website:
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/liberty.html
), which has great views of the New York City skyline, and you can visit Liberty Island and Ellis Island by boat. The second place to visit is 2) Branch Brook Park in the spring when the many Cherry trees are blossoming (Website:
http://www.branchbrookpark.org/
). For food, visit the Edison Ale House where they have over twenty beers on tap (Website:
http://www.edisonalehouse.com/Welcome.html
). Another good place that has a great grilled ribeye steak sandwich is the Gaslight Brewery (Website:
http://www.gaslightbrewery.net/
). Enjoy your visit to Newark!
